Panic Attacks and Severe Anxiety

Is Panic or Severe Anxiety causing disruption to your career, school attendance, or relationships?

Dr. Floyd offers a Three-Phase approach designed to accelerate recovery from panic and severe anxiety.

This approach is focused, goal-oriented, intensive, and designed to get you back to functioning.

Panic attacks are brief episodes of extreme fear. Severe anxiety can cause almost constant daily disruption.

A panic attack can happen without an obvious cause, but people with panic disorder may develop phobias related to something they associate with panic attacks. For example, they might associate panic with open spaces, large crowds, driving in cars, going to school or work, and more. As a result, they avoid these places, thinking avoidance will eliminate panic. However, avoidance can increase anxiety and slowly impair functioning.

Some symptoms include:

Sense of impending danger

Fear of dying

Fear of losing control

Nausea

Sweating

Chest pain

Palpitations

Shaking

Fear of more panic

Intensive Approach to Panic & Anxiety Recovery: Ages 10+

PHASE 1:

  • Sessions will be scheduled two or three times weekly, depending on your unique needs.
  • Family members may be interviewed and included in treatment, as you determine beneficial.
  • Referral to a psychiatrist might be indicated to support the recovery process. Dr. Floyd will help facilitate this referral and remain in consultation with your provider.
  • Early sessions will focus on brain-based education of panic/anxiety, tailored treatment planning, in-session skills practice, and development of a hierarchy of fears.
  • A very specific treatment plan with daily goals and objectives will be created to advance skills practice between sessions.
  • Dr. Floyd will encourage you to provide daily updates of progress and challenges in your patient portal. This information will be used to refine the treatment plan.
  • Group therapy might also be recommended as a way to increase resources and support.

PHASE 2:

  • Once your symptoms are better managed, sessions will move to once weekly.
  • Daily skills practice will remain a part of the treatment plan and refined to match your progress.
  • Daily reports of progress and challenges will be encouraged as needed.
  • Family member participation will be reevaluated and modified as needed.

PHASE 3:

  • Sessions will be scheduled once monthly, and then as needed. You are always welcome to schedule a session, or two, as a booster!
  • Once monthly sessions will focus on attending to lingering symptoms, new fears, or simply recovery maintenance.
